Mayor Aaron Kramer has worked since 2003 to help shape Ripon.
He may not be in Ripon to do so in 2010.
Kramer has been offered the position of city administrator of Prairie du Chien, Wis., a Mississippi River town somewhat smaller than Ripon in southwest Wisconsin.
Prairie du Chien officials have characterized the situation as the two sides have a verbal agreement for Kramer to take the post. Kramer disagreed.
“We’re working through terms and options,” Kramer said of having been offered the job.
He explained while he had “a verbal agreement to negotiate the terms of the deal,” the deal is not set in stone yet. “I will be discussing the issues with the city attorney of Prairie du Chien.”
If the two sides do come to an agreement, it will bring closure to a six-month search for a new city administrator there. But it would open Pandora’s box in Ripon.
With Kramer’s term nearly up — his post will be voted upon in the April 2010 election — it’s anyone’s guess who would become Ripon’s next mayor.
Papers are due by Jan. 5, 2010, for those who have interest in the post.
