Neither party has acted well, senator says

Luther Olsen makes no secret about it:

He hasn’t been pleased with either political party during the messy budget-repair battle.

Ripon’s embattled Republican state senator has witnessed both sides being uncivil.

“It’s not pleasant,” he said of the intense situation in Madison, speaking this morning (Wednesday) to the Ripon Early Bird Kiwanis Club. “I’ve been embarrassed to be a state senator for a while.”

Angry rhetoric. Death threats. The vilifying of state employees and teachers.

Several times, Olsen used the word “sad” to describe what has happened in recent weeks, as the state attempts to fix a projected $3.6 billion budget deficit in the next two years.

“It got out of hand,” he said of the fighting.
