'Our Saviour's is not a building but a group of people gathered by God ...'

Members of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ — including many of the church’s 40 couples who have been married at least 50 years — gather for a group photo in the front of the sanctuary in celebration of family.

It was “all in the family” one recent Sunday morning in October as members of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ gathered for a group photo, breakfast and puppet performances.

The Rev. Mark West wanted to come up with such a picture for Our Saviour’s, “not because we are looking for another pastor but because it would reflect the idea that Our Saviour’s UCC is not a building but a group of people gathered together by God for the purpose of serving the community in the name of Jesus Christ,” he said.

Church members chose to get their photo taken the second Sunday in October — Anniversary-Family Sunday—a special day set aside to honor those couples who have been married for 50 or more years.

Our Saviour’s has 40 such couples this year.
