A few extra cars could be rolling into town this weekend and stuffing themselves along Thorne Street as students move into Ripon College dorms for the fall.
As of Tuesday, the institution’s incoming class consists of 235 freshmen plus nine transfer students.
Although those numbers may oscillate before the start of the school year, that total of potentially 244 easily would exceed last year’s total of 229 students gained.
A difference of 15 students may seem like a small number, but the 6-percent increase indicates the direction the administration wants to keep climbing.
“When we look forward, we want to have classes that are even larger than this, that are north of 250 students every year,” Ripon College President Zach Messitte said.
Messitte attributes the rise to a number of factors, from a curriculum shift focusing on 21st-century skills to the newly renovated fitness and athletics center, the Willmore Center, and other campus improvements.
