Ripon College President David Joyce jokes that he went on vacation and came back with a new job.

But, truth be told, that’s not entirely accurate.

Though Joyce wasn’t searching for a new position, he knew when he left several weeks ago for a pre-planned vacation that he might return as president-to-be of Brevard College in Brevard, N.C.

And, as of Tuesday, that became the reality.

Joyce will leave Ripon College at the end of the year, and assume those duties at Brevard College Jan. 1, 2012.

In his absence, college vice president Gerald Seaman will become interim president.

“It just felt right,” Joyce said, noting that many factors went into his decision to move on to Brevard. “The skill-set I had, the desire to be in this part of the world ... my family is here.”

In fact, Brevard is a perfect match for Joyce in many ways.

An ordained minister in the Methodist church, Joyce now joins a four-year institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

In fact, it’s a sister school to Joyce’s alma mater, Pfeiffer University, which is in the Western North Carolina Conference with Brevard.
