Looks like Riponites will be heading to the polls a third time this summer.

A group seeking to recall state Sen. Luther Olsen, R-Ripon, submitted far more signatures Monday than required.

If the signatures are found to be valid and depending on possible legal challenges, a recall election likely will be scheduled for this summer.

Thus far, Olsen is the third state senator to have petitions filed with the state to force a recall.

In response to the news, Olsen released a statement Monday afternoon.

“I will continue to work on behalf of the hard working taxpayers and middle class families in our state,” he wrote. “... At a time when businesses and families are doing more with less, I believe our government should do the same.

“I am confident the residents of the 14th Senate District will support my efforts to balance the state budget and grow our economy.”

Ann Schmidt, the official contact listed with the state for the Committee to Recall Olsen, was excited to have the petitions filed.

“I’m very proud of the people in the district who did this,” she said.
