State Sen. Glenn Grothman announced last week he plans to challenge U.S. Rep. Tom Petri, R-Fond du Lac, for the 6th Congressional District.
Grothman is the sssistant majority leader of the Wisconsin State Senate, and has represented the 20th Senate District since 2005.
He represented the 58th Assembly District from 1993 through 2004.
“Like all Americans, I am frustrated by a federal government that seems to be out of control at a time when by many standards our great country is in a state of decline,” he said. “When looking at a federal debt that has risen to $17.5 trillion and an overall federal budget that has gone up by 68 percent since 2000. I, like others, am troubled about our country’s future.”
In his announcement, Grothman took aim at Petri.
“The current congressman from the 6th District is a decent, genial person; nevertheless he does not have the sense of urgency which the above statistics should engender,” Grothman said. “While there are more things to do in Madison, again and again many of the problems require changes in federal law. Whether it be welfare reform, education reform, or fiscal responsibility, we need changes from Washington. The next six years will determine the fate of America. Congress and the nation are at a turning point, and we need a leader that will put America back on the right path.”
