Tammi J. McCauley, 57, drowned in the accident, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a press release sent out by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in at 3:26 p.m. for a “pulseless nonbreathing person on the Mecan River in Mecan Township.” And “when the emergency responders arrived at the scene CPR was already being performed by witnesses.”

McCauley was kayaking with her sister at the time of the accident.

According to Hometown Broadcasting of Ripon, McCauley was an on-air personality for The Bug, using the name “Lexi Young.”

“Tami lived in Ripon and was a radio veteran. She enjoyed working with her on-air partner Wayne Mausser and the time she spent with her family,” the company wrote. “She was looking forward to the arrival of a new grandchild. She was a compassionate and caring person and will be terribly missed by those who knew her and her Hometown Broadcasting Family.”

The accident is under investigation by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marquette County Coroner’s Office. At this time, no foul play is suspected.

Marquette County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Marquette County EMS, and Montello and Princeton fire departments were on the scene.
