RMC CEO cites distance from family as reason for resignation
Jim Tavary

For the second time in two years, Ripon Medical Center (RMC) is searching for a new CEO.

Jim Tavary, CEO since late 2008, resigned last week Tuesday. He’d accepted the position exactly two years ago this month, and been in the post 20 months.

He’s leaving Ripon to become CEO of Wickenburg (Ariz.) Community Hospital — located 54 miles from Phoenix — so that he may be closer to family.

“[Wife] Karen and I and [son] Kruz have absolutely enoyed the time in Ripon, love the community, love the area,” Tavary said. “... But what was surprising for us was the distance to family.”

While this creates an opening at the helm of Ripon’s chief medical facility, its board of directors is not concerned.

As Joan Karsten, president of the board, explained, RMC has made great strides during the past few years — and much of that success can be attributed to a strong strategic plan the board put into place just prior to Tavary coming to Ripon.

And she is confident that plan will continue to be carried out successfully by the next CEO of RMC.
