What could be the theme of the 2016 city budget, as proposed?
Pay more but for no additional increase in city services.
Last week, the city of Ripon published its first draft of the 2016 budget.
In it, city staff proposes a 4.5-percent increase in the tax rate, while funding just 27.5 percent of the additional projects and purchases city departments sought.
The result? A mill rate increase up to $7.6232, up from $7.2949.
This means the owner of a $100,000 home would pay $762.32 to the city of Ripon for 2015 taxes this winter, as opposed to $729.49 for the 2014 taxes.
