When Ripon teachers and the School Board finally reached an agreement on their contract this week, it was almost a year late — but unlike last time, it was reached without rancor.
A contract was approved Monday night between the Ripon Education Association (REA) and the Ripon School Board.
And judging by reaction from leaders of both entities, the contract was a step forward for both sides in negotiations that have been controversial in the past.
“We worked together between the board and the union to get a settlement,” Tracy O’Brien, co-president of the REA said afterward. “If we can build upon this spirit of collaboration, community wide, we can continue to get things done for the betterment of the entire Ripon School District.”
School Board president Joe Hatcher echoed O’Brien’s sentiments.
