Ripon held its annual Veterans Day celebration at a new location this year: Ripon Middle School.

The change in location, though, lent itself to a special moment.

Above right, seventh-grade English teacher Christine Engel came up to hug keynote speaker Dick Zellmer, a retired member of the Navy. Zellmer also happens to be Engel’s father, and a former Ripon High School English teacher.

Below right, eighth-grader James Glaeser leads a group of students as they place their right hand over their heart to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
