This year has brought many reasons to celebrate, including the Green Lake Association’s 70th birthday.

Established by a group of lake-centric homeowners, the GLA has worked to protect Green Lake’s water quality since 1951.

To commemorate this organizational milestone, the GLA is hosting its Shine a Light Celebration Saturday, Aug. 7.

“We had such an overwhelmingly positive response from last year’s event, we decided to host it again,” said Stephanie Prellwitz, executive director at the GLA. “This year will be bigger and brighter as we celebrate Green Lake, make wishes for its future, shine a light on continuing water quality challenges and reaffirm our resolve to keep protecting the lake we all love.”

Throughout the month of July, individuals who purchase an event ticket will be entitled to receive an event bag that will include a new lantern, wine, tumblers, sparklers and more.

In addition to event tickets, raffle tickets also are available for purchase.

This year’s grand prize is a five-night, all-inclusive trip to Belize for two, including airfare. There will be 16 other prizes drawn in addition to the grand prize, including a diamond necklace, outdoor grill, towable tube, electronics, and more.

On the event day, Aug. 7, Shine a Light guests will tune-in to a live-streamed video, followed by a unified lantern lighting ceremony at sunset.

After the sun goes down, the prize party begins with a live-streamed raffle pull, where the 17 lucky winners will be revealed.

In addition to purchasing event tickets and raffle tickets, the community may further support the GLA’s lake-loving projects through making Fund a Need donations.

These donations promote projects like stream restorations, research, education, agricultural initiatives and invasive species monitoring and removal.

“We’re excited to be celebrating this milestone birthday as an organization, but were even more excited to make plans and implement projects that will continue to care for Green Lake for the next 70 years and beyond,” Prellwitz said.

Individuals celebrating the GLA’s birthday by hosting Shine a Light Celebration watch parties with neighbors and friends may tag their photos using the hash tag #70GLA.
