Two vying to fill seat on Common Council

It appears the Ripon Common Council will have to choose between two gentlemen in deciding who will represent District 1 for the next 11 months.

Todd Elliott, 550 Russell Drive, and Darrell Vossekuil, 733 Liberty St., both expressed interest in the post. Deadline to do so was last week Friday afternoon.

Each will vie for the post vacated by former Ald. Deano Pape, who moved recently to Iowa for work. He resigned from the council in March.

Other District 1 residents then were encouraged to express interest in replacing Pape.

With two applications received, the remaining seven Common Council members will review each.

Then, at the May 12 council meeting, Elliott and Vossekuil each will be given three minutes to explain why they would make a good alderman, before the council votes to accept one or the other.

The man selected then will take office June 1, and will serve the final 11 months of the four-year term vacated by Pape.
