Update - Feb. 2, 1:30 p.m.:

Ripon Police are urging drivers to use caution as they hit the roads today in the wake of the Groundhog Day blizzard.

The police sent out the following message minutes ago:

"East-west highways, roads and streets are still snow-covered and in some cases not passable. Use caution!"

Ripon was hit by a blizzard Tuesday night into Wednesday that brought a fair amount of snow and plenty of drifting.

High winds that started late Tuesday afternoon helped cause large drifts around the Ripon area, though most city of Ripon roads were plowed out by morning.

With the expected blizzard, all area school districts declared closures for today by yesterday afternoon. Several major companies in Ripon also were affected: Alliance Laundry Systems enacted a two-hour late start for its first shift, and Ripon Printers cancelled its third shift Tuesday night, while allowing first-shift employee to come in as they could.
