Ripon author and third-generation military member Karl Stewart noted he is “slightly embarrassed” when someone thanks him for his service.
Compared to others, he feels he gave so little.
It is a reaction he believes many veterans have when thanked.
That doesn’t mean he, and others, don’t welcome the gratitude.
Stewart spoke in front of a packed Ripon High School gymnasium last week Friday morning during the Veterans Day program.
The event was organized by the Ripon High School Student Council and sponsored by American Legion Post 43 and Ripon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5278.
The Ripon High School and middle school bands and choirs provided the music during the event, including the national anthem, Bill Moffit’s “Armed Forces Salute” and the playing of “Taps.”
