One person died and another was sent to the hospital in a two vehicle car crash on State Highway 23 near County Highway W on Sept. 29.

Law enforcement is seeking more information regarding a fatal car crash on Highway 23 last month that killed one person and sent another to the hospital.

Police are searching for a witness who may have information on a fatal crash, which occurred Sept. 29 around 3:20 p.m. near County Highway W.

According to the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a westbound black Jeep SUV crossed the center line and hit an eastbound white ford SUV head-on.

The driver of the white SUV was 51-year-old Appleton resident Steven Scott La Tour, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the crash report.

Meanwhile, the Jeep SUV was driven by 43-year-old Fond du Lac resident Jessica Knueppel, who was transported to ThedaCare Berlin for her injuries, the crash report noted.

About 10 minutes earlier that day, police say a second crash occurred involving a red or maroon SUV, according to a press release from Green Lake County Crime Stoppers.

The driver of the SUV reportedly left the vehicle briefly to assess damage, before leaving the scene, the press release said.

“We are attempting to identify the occupants of the red or maroon SUV as we believe they may have information pertaining to the fatal traffic crash investigation,” Green Lake County Chief Deputy Matthew Vande Kolk said in a press release.

According to the crash report, Knueppel appeared to be under the influence of medications, drugs or alcohol.

Blood tests for drugs and alcohol were administered and results are pending, the crash report states.
