Barbara Jean Hilke

Barbara was born July 14, 1942, in Waupun, WI, the daughter of Jess and Irene (Boda) Willet. She graduated from high school and on June 10, 1961, Barbara married Gene Edward Hilke. She worked as a secretary, a waitress and a City of Fond du Lac Auxiliary Police. Barbara also owned and operated a sports shop in Green Lake with her husband, Gene. She was a member of Wings over Wisconsin, a FFA Alumni and she was also a Fire Warden. She was a proud member of the Berlin Conservation Club, and was also in the trap shooting league. Barbara was strong willed, enjoyed hunting and fishing (she was known by her great-grandchildren as “fishy grandma”) and most of all, she loved her family deeply.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Gene Hilke of Markesan, WI; two children, Harland (Jane) Hilke and James (Cindy) Hilke all of Markesan, WI; two grandchildren, Steven (finaceé, Ariel) Hilke of Montello, WI and Jessica (Nick) Stibb of Princeton, WI; great-grandchildren, Blair Marwitz, Spencer Stibb, Hazel Stibb and Parker, Sawyer and Ainsleigh Hilke; siblings, Gary (Rhoda) Willet, Wayne Willet, Carol Willet and Brian (Robyn) Willet. Barbara was further survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Because of the continued increase in Covid infections and low percentage of vaccinations in Green Lake County, funeral services for Barbara will be private. A graveside service and interment will be held at Green Lake Center Cemetery in the Town of Green Lake, with Pastor Jason Jobs officiating. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 345, Markesan, WI 53946.
