Joe Borsi died of lung cancer on October 3, 2013, at the age of 50, at his home in Ripon, beside his wife and tender care-giver Shirley Bowen.
Joe was born on July 13, 1963 in Milwaukee, Wis. His mother was Margaret Borsi. When Joe was nine, Margaret married Roger Bromley, whom Joe always regarded as his father. Joe had numerous aunts and uncles on each side of his family. His God parents were his uncle Martin Fischer and his aunt, Katherine (Borsi) Fischer, who treated Joe and his brothers, John (Amanda) and Jim (Laura) as their own children. Joe graduated from Brown Deer High School, where he placed in the top 0.1% in the Wisconsin section of Mathematics of America Test and was a National Merit Scholarship finalist. Joe then enrolled in the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and was taking courses in the Physics program. He was a lifelong learner, continuing to educate himself through personal reading. Joe also found great enjoyment in fishing and spending time with pets. In the spring of 1996, Joe met the love of his life, Shirley. In the year 2000, he started working at Alliance Laundry Systems. He married Shirley on December 16, 2001. They never had children but her two sons from a previous marriage gave them a total of four grandchildren; Michael and Beth Kracht, have a son, Nathan; Dwain and Cheryl (Rose) Kracht have three children, Noah, Micah and Kendra. During his employment at Alliance Laundry, Joe advanced quickly to over-all quality technician on second shift, and he made some wonderful friends; Francis Stobbe, Randy Gruber, Charley Smith, Bob Tracy, Eric Shelton, Ralph Slaboshesky, Mike and Alice Zodrow, Matt Miller, Bill Martin, Cliff Witt, Georgia Cummins, Bob and Danielle Lurvey, Mark Bornick, Shawn Clauson, Christina OIsen, and many more. Joe was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jozef Borsi and John Lawrence Bromley; his grandmothers, Maria (Heckmann) Borsi and Eva (Franzen) Bromley; his aunts, Kathleen (Bromley) Musiedlak, Louise (Bromley) Bahr, and Anna (Borsi) Munnings; his uncle Fr. Vincent Bromley; his wife’s parents, Dwain Bowen and Blanche (Kolpin) Bowen; his wife’s sister, Beverly (Bown) Miller; and his wife’s daughters, Lori (Kracht) Spanbauer and infant Faye Ellen Kracht.
Funeral services for Joe will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 218 Blossom St. in Ripon, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 19. A visitation and gathering will be held just prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Immediately following the service there will be a procession to the grave and a interment service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin. A luncheon will follow back at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
