Mayme I. Zabel, age 74, of Brandon, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at her home with her family by her side.

Mayme was born in the town of Metomen on Jan. 13, 1936, to August and Rosalie (Halstad) Brown. She married Eugene Zabel on June 28, 1952, at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon where she was an active member for many years. Together Mayme and Gene raised four children in the Green Lake, Brandon and Ripon area. Mayme was a wife and homemaker for many years, once her children were in school, Mayme obtained work outside the home retiring after 34 years of sewing at Admanco in Ripon. Following retirement, she was the cashier at Crafts Tucked Back in Ripon. Mayme enjoyed the Milwaukee Brewers on TV, on the radio and the family trips to the games meant a lot to her. She was an avid bowler, participating in state bowling tournaments, the couple’s league on Sundays and the women’s league on Wednesday nights. She always said, “My average isn’t that great but I’m having fun.” Mayme loved to cook. She would take vacation so she could stay home and cook for the hunters that would invade her home during deer hunting. She also made the food to feed the goblins at Wyer’s Woods, the copious amounts of food for family gatherings and her birthday donuts where shared by many.

Mayme is survived by her children, Sheila Wyer of Brandon, Wis., Anita Hilt of Adams, Wis., Mark (Ann) Zabel of Brandon, Wis. and Randy (fiancé Amy Rudolf and children, Rory and Ralissa) Zabel of Brandon, Wis.; grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda) Swaw-Wyer of Oshkosh, Wis., Rachel (fiancée Mike Slate) Wyer of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Erika (Jason and children, Evan and Brittney) Kaatz of Ripon; and brother-in-law, DuWayne (Jean) Zabel of Ripon.
