Richard M. “Dick” Sorensen, age 63, of Ripon, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from a motorcycle accident in Dodge County. He was born in Ripon on August 25, 1951, the son of Melford and Myrtle (Spielvogel) Sorensen. Richard graduated from Ripon High School, Class of 1969. He served his country in the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Norton Sound in Port Hueneme, CA. He was united in marriage to Ellen Gudex for 25 years. He then married Julianne Gambsky Denton on August 8, 2013 in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Richard worked at Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon as a Maintenance Electrician for over 30 years, retiring in 2014. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local Union 1327, where he also served as President. He was on the Board of Directors for the Fond du Lac Labor Council and organized the Fond du Lac Labor Day Parade for over 10 years. His passion in life was his Harley Davidson motorcycle and being an active member of ABATE. He enjoyed hunting pheasants with his Labrador “hunting buddies”.
Richard is survived by his wife, Julianne; two sons: Andrew Sorensen and Justin (Carissa) Sorensen, both of Ripon; his first wife, Ellen Sorensen, Ripon; two sisters: Sandra Sorensen, Surprise, AZ and Jackie (Ed) Belka, Eau Claire; one brother: Peter (Mary) Sorensen, De Pere; beloved nieces and nephews; many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Time of Remembrance will be held from 5-8PM on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Divine Passage Funeral Home in Ripon. A Graveside inurnment with full military honors will be held at a later date in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Appleton, WI with Jordan Kuczwara officiating.
