Red Hawk baseball team sweeps UW-Oshkosh in Highway 44 rivalry

Michael Barnes wasted no time making a statement for the Ripon College Red Hawk baseball team last week Saturday during a road doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans.

The senior blasted a two-run home run in the top of the first inning of game one and the Red Hawks never looked back as they won 5-0 and 12-1 (seven innings).

The wins snap a six-game losing streak in the Highway 44 rivalry, which dates back to 2016.

“That set a tone that we were going to come in there and not be messed with,” Ripon head coach Eric Cruise said of Barnes’ home run. “Traditionally, the state schools, they have an air of confidence about them, and then Saturday we had it. We came in there, and to do that in first inning let them know we mean business.”

While the blast set the stage for a dominant two games, it was Ripon’s pitching and defense that Cruise believes stole the show.
