School unveils plan for bus loop

When Green Lake kids return to school this September, they’ll approach their education from a new angle — quite literally.

Plans are underway to make the bus dropoff and pickup one continuous loop around the backside of the building by the playground by opening up the fence and rebuilding the asphalt.

Ultimately, buses will enter off North Street from the north, approach the school with the bus doors facing the school, pick up/drop off kids, and continue out through the south exit that connects to Scott Street.

For many years, bus drop-off/pickup had occurred along Mill Street. That changed to the back playground this past school year for safety reasons, but buses still had to turn around because there was one driveway.

Now, with a new entrance off North Street, they’ll simply enter and continue on through.

“We have been [having buses drive on the playground asphalt] for the past year ... So what we’re going to do is make it a thoroughfare,” new Superintendent Mary Allen said.
