Smick won’t seek re-election, leaving open seat on council

Ald. Jon Smick speaks at a forum shortly before his election in 2014. Smick will not run for a second term.

Someone has to represent Green Lake’s District 1.

But no name will appear on the ballot April 4.

Ald. Jon Smick’s term expires this spring, and he has filed non-candidacy paperwork.

The only names Green Lake voters will see on the ballot for city officials are those of Mayor Jon McConnell and Ald. Dusty Walker, both of whom are running unopposed.

Smick was elected in 2014, narrowly defeating Charles Wallschlaeger. He will leave the council after serving a single term.
