Comeback lifts Tigers to victory

Jess Ehrenberg pitches for Ripon Tuesday night.

A late comeback in a back-and-forth game Tuesday gave the Tiger baseball team its second conference win of the season.

To earn the victory, Ripon outlasted Little Chute 9-8 at Barlow Park.

After holding a lead most of the game, the Tigers found themselves down 8-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. But, the team wasn’t about to give up, as it got a late rally going.

Jess Ehrenberg started the inning with a walk for Ripon. Michael Polcyn then got a hit to left off the third baseman’s glove. Jordan Jess stepped up to the plate and cracked a double to left, scoring Ehrenberg and Polcyn, tying the game at 8.

A walk and another hit then loaded the bases and set up Hayden Fenner to redeem himself after struggling the day before. Fenner stepped up, finding a gap in the outfield off a 2-1 pitch to win the game.

Coach Dan Jonas was pleased with how hit team fought back.

“It was nice to see us not get down and come back and win this game,” he said. “We could have easily packed it in after Little Chute scored two in the top of the eighth.”
