Consistency elusive for RHS volleyball at Portage tourney

Ripon High School coach Tracy Landerman saw flashes of brilliance from her Tiger volleyball team Saturday.

Ripon was making its first visit to a tournament in Portage, facing off against almost exclusively new competition.

And, at times, Landerman saw her team execute exactly as it should — as it needed to — to bring home wins from the tournament.

Unfortunately, these moments remained simply flashes, without the Tigers able to convert them into victories.

Instead, Ripon finished with just one victory in five matches.

Losses included to Waterloo 10-25, 23-25; Portage 22-25, 21-25; Kenosha Bradford 13-25, 15-25; Monona Grove 12-25, 16-25; and Black River Falls 25-13, 17-25, 12-25.

“The competition was good, but it wasn’t a stellar day for us,” Landerman said. “We struggled from the start getting our wheels going.

“We were very inconsistent passing, and that really [causes problems] because in this game in order to utilize hitters, you need to pass well.”
