Early goals doom boys' soccer in season-ending loss

Home-field advantage proved insufficient Tuesday as the Tiger boys’ soccer season came to an end at the hands of Berlin, ranked No. 3 in Ripon’s region.

A few weeks earlier, Ripon had lost to Berlin 2-1, giving the Tigers hopes of an upset going into the contest.

But Berlin plays tough and is a physical team, and Ripon coach Don Bogdanske explained he was concerned this might lead to problems with his players and their tendency to lose their cool and play sloppily under pressure.

Also adding to this pressure cooker of a game was its win-or-go-home nature. Winner advanced to a Thursday match; loser was done.
