Errors hurt Tigers in season-opening loss to Westfield

Ripon High School baseball team catcher Hayden Fenner and hitter Austin Fenner practice at Barlow Park.

Coach Dan Jonas knows there are three keys to a successful baseball game: pitching, fielding and hitting.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, one of those three let them down in their opener as the season got off to a rocky start Tuesday night. The Tigers fell to Westfield 2-1.

Ripon out-hit the Pioneers 7-5, but two costly errors led to both Westfield runs, and Ripon was not able to come up with an answer as it fell to 0-1.

“Both errors led to both runs for Westfield,” coach Dan Jonas said. “They were a matter of execution which we can correct. If we don’t, we will continue to make those errors and they will cost us some more games.”
