Girls' soccer: Tigers shut out Wautoma for second win in a row

Sarah Salas, left, shares a smile with Lindsey Scott after scoring Ripon’s third goal in a 3-0 victory over Wautoma last week Thursday. Salas scored two goals in the game.

The Ripon High School girls’ soccer team closed out the regular season in style last week Thursday, beating Wautoma 3-0 to end on a two-game winning streak with two shutouts.

The Tigers got off to a great start when Lindsey Scott laid a ball off for Sarah Salas in the first minute, and Salas squeezed a slow-roller just inside the goalpost.

Ripon continued to play better as the half went on, but struggled with the Wautoma high defensive line and was penalized for being offside repeatedly.

Eventually, however, Scott found Savannah Skamra with a pass in front of goal. Skamra’s hard shot was deflected by a Wautoma player past her own goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Tigers timed their runs better and created several breakaway chances but were unable to get a shot past the Wautoma goalkeeper.
