The fourth of July celebration at Murray Park wasn’t the only place for fireworks in Ripon this past week.
The Ripon American Legion baseball team provided an aerial show as well, scoring 45 runs in two games on July 1 and 4. The wild week then wrapped up in Fond du Lac Tuesday night.
Before getting to the scheduled game Tuesday, Ripon had to finish up a June 21 matchup that had been suspended in the eighth inning tied at 2.
Fond du Lac broke the tie in the makeup game, winning 4-2.
An unfortunate hop on a grounder put the ball over Michael Polcyn’s head, and several hits after that led to two runs and a win for Fond du Lac.
Following that, Ripon rebounded in the full game with a 7-2 win.
“They refocused for the second game,” assistant coach Howard Hansen said.
Ripon ace Jordan Jess was on the mound and put together another stellar performance, striking out 14 and giving up only three hits.
“Jordan pitched a great game and we supported him with a ‘W,’” Hansen said.
