Chris Lyke and Beau Ermatinger faced a team on a different level last week Wednesday.
It showed in the final score.
The Ripon Tiger boys’ tennis team’s No. 1 duo lost to Monroe’s Kevin Noriega and Matt Monahan 6-1, 6-0 at the East Troy Sectional.
The match was hampered by delays caused by scattered showers.
“While Mother Nature wasn’t exactly in anybody’s favor, Beau and Chris faced a very gifted and fundamentally sound team,” Ripon head coach J.J. Grinde said. “The only competition that our team had throughout the season that would have been comparable would be Xavier and West De Pere.”
Monroe’s duo — which qualified for state with a third-place finish — is comprised of seniors, while Ripon’s is made up of a junior and sophomore.
Despite the lopsided loss, Grinde believes the sectional match will make the tandem better.
