The Ripon and Plymouth boys’ basketball teams already share two colors: Orange and black.
Last week Friday, they had another one in common: lime green.
In a touching display of unity, both teams wore special shooting shirts in honor of freshman and Ripon JV2 player Garrett Mitchell’s father, Dan, who is battling lymphoma.
The game was the last one Garrett’s dad would be able to attend for the foreseeable future as he will be in Milwaukee for treatment and a bone marrow transplant.
In addition to the T-shirts, small green ribbons also were made for coaches, parents and fans to wear; a 50/50 raffle helped raise some funds for the Mitchell family.
Donations in the form of gas cards and restaurant gift cards also were sought to help Barb Mitchell with all the trips to
Milwaukee she will be making.
The fund-raiser and awareness event was posted on Facebook and Twitter last week Thursday — one day before the game.
That didn’t stop both schools from rallying around the Ripon Tiger freshman and his family.
