Caudill shines for Tigers at opening track and field meet

Dana Caudill wasted no time making an impact for the Ripon High School track and field team.

The freshman led the Tigers Tuesday in her first competition as she placed first in both the 60-meter dash (8.2 seconds) and triple jump (16 feet, 5 inches) at The Waters Meet in Oshkosh.

Lauren Cook added a pair of second-place efforts in the triple jump (31-0) and pole vault (8-0).

They helped the Ripon girls’ team finish fifth out of 18 schools despite being short-handed due to kids being gone on spring break.

The boys’ team, meanwhile, placed 11th out of the 18 schools.

Omro won the boys’ competition, while Berlin won the girls.

The indoor meet, hosted by Omro, took place at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kolf Center.

“Overall we did well based on our youth,” said assistant coach Don Bogdanske, who was filling in for head coach Chris Gatzke. “The nice surprises came from Dana and Lauren in their events as well as in the distance running.”

Ripon also received a runner-up performance from the boys’ 800 relay team of Cameron Jennings, Jesus Beltran, Noah Rindo and Jake Elliott. It finished in 1 minute, 40 seconds.
