After playing one of its best games of the season last week Thursday against Plymouth, the Ripon High School boys’ soccer team took a step back Tuesday.
It fell behind Kettle Moraine Lutheran (KML) early and never recovered as it lost to the Chargers 5-0 on the road.
“Kettle Moraine Lutheran is a very experienced team and program. They don’t make a lot of mistakes and they play well-organized soccer,” Ripon head coach Kyle Sackett said. “So really our idea was try to limit early opportunities because we know if they get one early on you, they’re very difficult to play against from behind.”
That plan went awry in the sixth minute, when the Chargers took advantage of a missed clearance by a Tiger defender to score their first goal of the game.
It was one of two goals KML scored off of Ripon mistakes as it also capitalized on another missed clearance around the 50th minute for a 3-0 lead.
