Ripon girls fall to more aggressive Mayville

Ripon High School head girls’ basketball coach Tom McNeill told his team as it came out of the locker room after halftime Tuesday night that it needed to be the aggressor.

Unfortunately, it was unable to do that.

The Tigers were out-played by Mayville in both the first and second half on their way to a 56-36 road loss to the Cardinals.

“We need to just be a little bit more aggressive when it comes to driving to the basket or boxing out ... or being more aggressive going after the basketball,” Tom McNeill said. “And we ran into the same situation in the second half as we did in the first.”

Ripon overcame the lack of aggression for a little bit in the first half as it played with Mayville, but the Cardinals eventually pulled away late for a 33-22 halftime advantage.

It then cut the deficit to single digits again early in the second half, before watching Mayville go on a run to extend the lead.
