The Ripon High School girls’ basketball team got the season started on the right foot Tuesday as it defeated host Waupaca 58-47.
It was the opener for both teams.
“It’s always great to start with a win,” Ripon head coach Tom McNeill said. “It’s clearly something that we can build upon. We’ve got a lot of things to go ahead and address ... But it is a nice feeling to get a win in the first game.”
The game started off as a back-and-forth affair until the Tigers were able to pull away before halftime and take a 31-23 advantage.
“We were pretty close with them,” Tom McNeill said. “I think it was up to the 12- or 10-minute mark of the first half and then there was a period where we just started stringing some baskets together.”
He noted Ripon had high-percentage shots for much of the half, but couldn’t get many of them to go.
