The Ripon High School volleyball team was only able to win one match at the Monona Grove Invitational last week Saturday.
But it was able to draw several positives from the five-match competition.
Among them was a strong start as the Tigers won their first game of the day 26-24 over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, before dropping the final two 15-25, 11-25.
“All of the teams were good, solid teams and you never quite know how the day is going to start when you’re going to an early morning Saturday tournament,” Ripon head coach Tracy Landerman said. “So we started off strong in that match and ready to play.”
She also was pleased with her team’s play at times in its second match off the day against the eventual champion, Monona Grove.
It lost 18-25 in the first game, before dropping the second game to the Silver Eagles 15-25.
“We played with them in spurts, we put together some good things, but they had control of the match from start to finish,” Landerman said, noting the Silver Eagles are a strong, well-rounded team that came at Ripon tough from the start.
The Tigers then bounced back to defeat Madison West 25-19, 25-19 for its only win of the day.
