The Ripon Tiger volleyball team’s season came to an abrupt end Tuesday as it lost to the Wautoma Hornets 12-25, 16-25, 20-25 on the road in a regional quarterfinal match-up.
The Tigers were the No. 10 seed, while the Hornets were a No. 7 seed.
“Wautoma controlled the game from the start and a series of unforced errors made it tough for us to put points on the board,” Ripon head coach Tracy Landerman said. “We started to put things together in games two and three, but it just wasn’t enough. Wautoma played the better match tonight.”
The Hornets jumped out to an early lead in the first game. While the Tigers started to come around and put some good play together toward the end, the deficit was too large to overcome.
In game No. 2, Ripon jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but was out-scored 25-11 the rest of the way.
“We were doing some really nice things on the court: bringing things together again and starting to turn the corner,” Landerman said. “But Wautoma just chipped away at that lead and then it was kind of a back and forth in that second game for a while. Then they took more command of it.”
