RC Women qualify for conference tournament

A year after winning the Midwest Conference Tournament, the Red Hawk women are on their way once again. The team clinched the berth last week Saturday with a rout over the Monmouth Fighting Scots. The win improved Ripon to 11-1 in conference, while Monmouth fell to 6-7.

“Its one hurdle that we’ve crossed our goal, now we take the next step, working for positioning on the first four spots and see where the chips fall,” head coach Julie Johnson said.

Monmouth got out in front 23 seconds into the game following a jumper by Alison Andrews, however, that lead would be the only one of the game as the Red Hawk full court press proved too much for the Fighting Scots to handle. While the fear of getting in early foul trouble due to the press existed, Johnson just couldn’t say no.
