The Red Hawk women’s basketball team ended an 11-game losing streak Tuesday night with an emphatic 90-40 win over the visiting Lawrence University Vikings.

Both teams came out firing from outside the arc with the first 21 points of the game accounted for by threes. Ripon led 16-9 early after a pair of baseline jumpers by junior forward Skye Gonyo, but the visitors mounted a 10-2 run over the next six minutes to seize their first lead of the game.

A jumper by sophomore forward Brittany Johnson gave the Red Hawks the lead back and the team never looked back, pounding the Vikings on offense and defense en route to a dominant 25-2 finish to the first half.

The Red Hawks shot 46 percent (17 for 37) from the field in the first half and were fueled by freshman center Chelsea Aicher’s 12 points and six rebounds. On the defensive end, Ripon was in complete control, forcing 16 Lawrence turnovers and tallying 8 steals.

“Our defense was incredible,” freshman Katie Raymond said. “We were really up in their faces.”
