Red Hawk women keep hot streak going

Skye Gonyo goes past an opponent.

Often in basketball the outcome of a contest is decided by the number of times a team visits the charity stripe and the percentage it shoots from the line. This was the case for the Red Hawk women as they managed to escape on the road with a 73-66 victory over the Beloit Buccaneers Tuesday night.

With the win, Ripon improved its Midwest Conference record to 9-1, its best conference start since winning its first 15 games in 2003-04. Beloit dropped its fourth straight, falling to 4-7 on the season.

After leading for the first 35 minutes of a game that featured plenty of runs, Ripon trailed 59-58 and was faced with its first and only deficit. Two minutes later, Ripon narrowly held the advantage over Beloit 65-63 and started a clutch stretch of eight straight successful free throws.
