Red Hawks to host Midwest Conference Tournament

Stephanie Rieuwpassa pitches for Ripon.

It all came down to one day for the Ripon College softball team.

Win both games of a doubleheader against Lawrence, and Ripon would host the Midwest Conference Tournament. Lose both, and the Red Hawks could be eliminated entirely.

With two thrilling one-run victories Monday, the Red Hawks claimed the Midwest Conference North Division and forced the other three teams to make the trip to Ripon Friday.

The Red Hawks won the two games by scores of 3-2 and 4-3.

“There was a lot of emotion because we knew what was at stake,” coach Jen Mueller said. “It was senior day and because of the weather it was our first game played in Ripon this year. So, it was a pretty exciting time for our girls.”

The day didn’t start out as the Red Hawks had hoped as Lawrence’s first batter hit a home run off Ripon starter Stephanie Rieuwpassa.
