The Ripon soccer team opened its season last week Thursday with a 2-0 win over Oshkosh Lourdes/Valley Christian (OLVC).
As has been typical with Ripon, the start of the match seemed slow, but soon gained energy as the players became comfortable on the pitch and aware of their positions.
“One thing we have really stressed this season with the team is position awareness and cohesiveness,” coach Don Bogdanske said.
It appeared that Ripon would control the game midway into the first half based on possession time. OLVC got into the attack zone a minimal amount of times while Ripon’s strong defense kept pressure to the ball, allowing the Tigers to keep the ball in the oppositions half.
“Ron Badtke, Josh Blank, Brady Erickson and Ben Schwemmer did a great job at the backs for us — we as coaches are really pleased with what we saw,” Bogdanske said.
