The Ripon High School tennis team continued its banner season with a 7-0 win over Fox Valley Lutheran Monday.
The win bumped the Tigers’ overall record up to 9-2. They are 4-1 in conference.
Tony Wagner, who is in his fifth and final season as head coach, said this is the best team he’s fielded. Wagner is retiring from teaching and coaching following the school year.
One reason for the team’s success, according to Wagner, is the emergence of the singles players.
“In past years, we’ve been trying to put the stronger players in doubles,” Wagner said. “The theory was you win three doubles and one in singles, you win the match. We would lose a lot of those matches 3-to-4. As we have progressed in the last couple of years, we’ve been winning more of those tie-breakers.”
