The Tiger wrestling team found out how important it is to maintain an aggressive attitude last week Saturday.
After what coach Mark Bradley said was one of his team’s best outings in a dual meet at Fox Valley Lutheran, Ripon dropped the first match it appeared in at the Laconia Duals two days later.
Elkhart Lake defeated Ripon 36-30 in a match the coach knew his team could have won.
“We didn’t wrestle as well as we can and lost a close one,” Bradley said. “It was frustrating — we kind of took a step back from Thursday.”
But, the athletes and coaches regrouped after the defeat, and came out with a new attitude for the rest of the day. It worked, as Ripon won two of its next four matches — the two losses coming to teams that had rosters that were more complete than the Tigers.
Ripon won matches against Blackhawk (51-18) and Xavier (42-18), while losing to Laconia (57-10) and Kenosha St. Joe’s (58-15).
“They came out aggressive in the second match,” Bradley said. “The coaches had a talk and the wrestlers talked. They came out with a different attitude and mentality. It was a good turning point on the day.”
