After an up-and-down regular season, the 2010 Tiger softball team made its mark in the postseason, nearly knocking off No. 1 seed Waupun for the regional title.

Coach Jeff Krentz hopes the 2011 edition of his team can pick up where last year’s team left off. And with many young players now having a year of varsity experience under their belt, there’s no reason why it couldn’t.

“After the run in the playoffs, the kids realized how good they can be,” Krentz said. “They have lofty expectations and hope to be in the top half of the conference.”

To do so, the Tigers will have to fill in some key areas. Ripon lost four to graduation from last year’s team and had some other shuffling of athletes.

Returning are both starting pitchers in Mallary Nissen, the only senior on the team, and junior Ashley Graff.

“Pitching should be our strong point this year,” Krentz said.
