Wins at the top-three singles positions were not enough for the Ripon High School girls’ tennis team Tuesday afternoon as it lost to Kewaskum 4-3 on the road.
Despite the loss, Ripon co-head coach Becki Baird was pleased with the performance of her team.
“Wonderful work by our girls tonight,” Ripon co-head coach Becki Baird said. “I was especially impressed by the focus the girls had on their individual matches.”
Baird added the top-three singles players — Maggie Raddatz. Emily Goyette and Rachel Peppler — were “spot on” Tuesday.
Raddatz won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-2, while Goyette was victorious 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Peppler came out on top at No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
Losing a tough match for the Tigers was the No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Cook and Kaitlyn Scoville.
It fell a tiebreaker short of winning its match and the dual for Ripon as it lost 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 2-6.
“Lauren and Kaitlyn were edged by their opponents in a heartbreaking match,” Baird said. “They played with great strategy but were unable to pull out the win.”
