The Ripon Commonwealth Press will spotlight local senior student-athletes throughout the school year on Today, we feature Avery Downs, a three-sport athlete from Ripon High School.

Q. What high school sports do you play?

A. I play volleyball, basketball and softball.

Q. What is your earliest memory playing sports

A. My earliest memory of playing sports would have to be when I would go to volleyball, basketball and softball camps/clinics along with playing on little softball league teams.

Q. Favorite athletic memory during time in high school?

A. My favorite athletic memory would have to be when our varsity softball team advanced to the second round of regionals my sophomore year.

Q. What is one area you would like to improve?

A. I would like to improve on my outside shots [for basketball]. My first year on varsity I wasn’t the greatest shooter, however, I’ve been working on my outside shots more this season.

Q. What were/are your goals entering your final season?

A. My goals for my final seasons are to improve my skills, go far in our playoffs, and to make the most out of each game through having fun with my friends and teammates.

Q. What’s your favorite sport?

A. My favorite sport would have to be volleyball. I’ve grown up not only playing this sport, but loving it as well, and I’ve made the best memories with my teammates playing this game.

Q. What’s your favorite team to play?

A. My favorite team to play would have to be Berlin. They’re our biggest rivals, and the games we play against them are always intense and great competition.

Q. Who is your favorite professional athlete

A. My favorite professional athlete would be Kobe Bryant because he was a positive role model, and he always prospered to have the Mamba Mentality.

Q. What is your favorite class/subject?

A. My favorite class/subject is Economics because I find how our economy works pretty interesting.

Q. What do your future plans entail?

A. I haven’t made my decision on which college I’m planning to attend, however, I plan to attend either Grand Canyon University, or the University of Tennessee-Knoxville to major in the medical field of some kind. I do not plan to play any college sport, but if the chance comes to me, I will gladly take that opportunity.
