Spikers can't seize chances at Oshkosh Tourney

Coming off a hard-fought, five-set loss to Plymouth a few days earlier, the Ripon High School volleyball team couldn’t keep up the high level of play last weekend.

It was close in almost every match, but finished 0-4 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational.

The Tigers suffered losses to Middleton (18-25, 23-25), Lakeshore Christian (16-25, 21-25), Pewaukee (18-25, 23-25) and Gilbrater (18-25, 25-22, 11-15).

“That was one of those days where it was frustrating because we just didn’t take advantage of opportunities,” Ripon head coach Tracy Landerman said. “Yes, games were close. But some of those games that were close were completely doable for us. We had bits and pieces of shining moments, but not enough of them.”

Landerman added that Middleton and Pewaukee are good teams that are ranked in the state.

“They’re good ball clubs and we hung with both of them,” she said. “Middleton — I think they started off a little bit rough because I think they’re probably more dominant than those scores would show, but we didn’t take advantage of the fact that they had a slow start.”
