Struggles at the plate cost Tigers against Waupaca

Michelle Koster slides into home for Ripon's only run.

It came down to getting the timely hit Tuesday for the Ripon High School softball team.

Unfortunately, the team wasn’t able to get it, as it left multiple runners on base in a 3-1 loss to Waupaca at Murray Park.

The loss dropped Ripon to 3-4 in conference and 5-5 overall.

Coach Jeff Krentz said even though Waupaca’s pitcher is a top hurler in the conference, the Tigers had opportunities against her, tallying five hits in the ballgame.

“Katie McCormick is a very good pitcher, but we had our chances,” he said. “We just couldn’t get the key hit when it counted.”

Waupaca scattered runs over three innings to get the win.

Ripon had a great chance in the bottom of the third inning with the bases loaded and only one out, but only was able to get one run when Michelle Koster came home on a wild pitch. This would prove to be Ripon’s sole run of the game as it took the loss.
